One of the benefits of podcasting is freedom from time constraints. A podcast doesn’t have to fit into the strict time limits of the public radio clock. Invariably, podcasters produce stories that tend to be much longer than stories heard on much of public radio. A lot longer. Too long, even (including HowSound).
The World According to Sound is an exception. Producers Chris Hoff and Sam Harnett have chosen to go the other way with their freedom from the clock – shorter. Ninety seconds short. The results are tasty little morsels that are quite satisfying.
Each episode, Sam and Chris pick a sound, play it for a little bit, drop a few facts, and then step out of the way to let listeners simply take in the audio. A minute and a half later, you’re on to the next one. Short is beautiful. But don’t call them audio tweets.
