A Transom Special Feature with The FLIK International Movie Festival
***Transom and the Open Studio Project will be awarding up to $1000 to the top submissions.***
Transom, in collaboration with the FLIK International Movie Festival, is seeking multi-media self-portraits to be featured at the festival and on the site. All stories must be non-fiction, 5 minutes or less, and include both audio and visual components. The visual can literally reflect the story, or complement it – your choice. Along with your soundtrack, you can use photo slideshows, cut up old films and videos, animation, footage of locations or related imagery, or even a series of hand drawings. Whatever works for the story. (By the way, Transom is pleased to be working on this project with our original Web Director, Josh Barlow).
For an example, you can watch Renee Shaw’s submission. It’s called, “My Best Friend Mark.”Other current submissions can be found at the FLIK Festival’s YouTube group.
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking to create new outlets where artists and everyday people explore self-portraiture as a means of both expression and self exploration. It can be a memory, a vignette from life, an interesting dream that affected you, an experience of moving to a new culture, a story your mother once told you, an event that changed your notion of identity, a meditation on a certain theme in your life.
How Do I Submit?
Create your SELF portrait, upload it to a Web server or FLIK’s YouTube group.
Email the link with your personal contact information to: selfcinema@flikfestival.com. There is no entry fee. If your work is selected for a FLIK Movie Festival screening or the Transom Website, we will contact you.First deadline for SELF CINEMA is Friday, November 14, 2008.
What Happens Next?
The Transom and FLIK teams will review your piece. Selected SELF portraits will be fetaured permanently on our websites. Others may be featured at FLIK Festival screenings and special events.
