Ben Shapiro
Ben Shapiro began his media life at community-based radio stations
in California and New Mexico. After a brief staff stint at NPR, he
began producing independently in radio, film, and television. His
radio pieces and series have aired on NPR, PRI and CBC. Shapiro
also is an editor and program consultant, with credits including
Joe Richman's RadioDiaries, the late The Next Big Thing, and
the Dupont Award-winning North Carolina Voices series for
WUNC. He was consulting producer of Mandela: An Audio History, and
with the Kitchen Sisters of the Sonic Memorial Special.
Ben's film and television productions have appeared on PBS, The
Sundance Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and in festivals,
theaters and museums in the U.S. and Europe, including The Museum
of Modern Art and the AFI Festival. He has received three Emmys and
an American Film Institute Documentary Prize. Ben is also a cameraman
and shoots much of what he produces.
He has taught at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism,
and New School University.
