Sound Matters

Listen to “Sound Matters”

So much of what we hear on public radio in the United States is intended to be informative and edifying. It sounds as though the people talking are sitting up straight, projecting their voices. The tone is didactic. Including HowSound. And this isn’t a critique. It’s just an observation.

British/Danish producer Tim Hinman takes a different approach with his podcast Sound Matters. He sounds like it’s late at night after a long day. There’s a single light on in a dark room. Tim’s face is only partly lit as he leans forward, arms resting on a table, speaking into a microphone. And while his tone is didactic, it’s also ambient and somewhat somber with a touch of dry humor.

Tim and I talk about the quality and character and the overall feel of his podcast on this episode of HowSound – the how and why to his approach. You’ll want to wear headphones for this one.

    Very interesting episode.
Thanks for spotting a unique and “different” podcast like Tim Hitman’s one.
